About EMDR
Research has demonstrated EMDR intensives are as effective as weekly therapy. One benefit is that EMDR Intensives allow you to condense your time in session down into fewer sessions. For example, a weekend EMDR Intensive session (two-7 hours days) will provide about the equivalent of 4-6 months of weekly EMDR therapy time. Research is promising on EMDR Intensive Therapy. First, It’s fast! Instead of individual sessions, over months and years, you can fast-track therapy by having fewer, longer sessions, avoiding the inconveniences of taking time weekly and having possible long-term scheduling issues. Second, you get deeper into the targeted material faster and stay there longer. This allows for a minimal amount of time devoted to checking in, weekly reviews, and crises from the week. Third, EMDR Intensives save time and money. Attending individual therapy sessions requires planning, drive time, and one in the office it takes time to get comfortable, check-in, and get comfortable. The end of the session requires some closure and emotion regulation or at least a few minutes to ensure you are ready to go out and face the world for another week. All of these tasks take time and reduce the time spent on actual processing, so therapy takes longer to process the same amount of material. Intensives end up being a more efficient use of time, and therefore money in most cases. Fourth, you can maintain focus on your goals. Weekly sessions can be difficult to manage for those who have busy schedules, individuals who work full time, have children/families, and those with limited support. Having the time to focus on your own needs and well-being can be difficult. Fitting in weekly therapy sessions may be challenging, whereas the intensive can fit your schedule and allow you to really focus on your goals and the issues you want to address. And lastly, you will be less distracted from your goals when you are focused completely on your Intensive.

I am experienced in working with first responders, military, therapists, social workers, teachers, and other helpers. For those individuals who don’t want to talk about the memory or image I am trained in the blind-to-therapist protocol and have found EMDR to be very effective, even when the distressing event or image is never discussed. This is an appealing option for some individuals. Please schedule a consultation if you are interested in knowing more about this option
